After a six month winter deployment at Palmer Station, Antarctica, it was time for some turns in the Cordillera Mountains of Chile. Traveling with friends, I made my way to Patagonia to hike and ski some volcanos in Tolhuaca National Park! We enjoyed the full Chilean experience of amazing vistas, killer turns, and delightful hospitality. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to ski active Vulcan Lonquimay, Villarica, Casablanca, visit the Kuntsman Brewery in Valdevia, and soak in the natural hot springs nearby.
Bottom line: wheeeeee! Jajajaja! We had an absolute blast touring, skiing, exploring and discovering some of the most pristine and unique terrain in Chile. Highlights included hucking off cliffs in whiteout conditions, meeting friendly folks, and enjoying the local cusine (Los Gringos sandwiches are amazing!) And of course, pantsless skiing is always fun!
Needless to say, we had a great time and enjoyed some well-earn R&R before heading back to the US to continue planning for the Kayak Expedition.
